What We Carry

Looking at Gia now, I keep coming back to the way strength gets misunderstood.

When someone becomes known for carrying a lot, people begin to assume they can carry anything.

More responsibility.
More weight.
More expectation.
More of what everyone else is too tired, too afraid, or too unwilling to hold.

And eventually, strength stops being seen as something remarkable and starts being treated like an obligation.

I know that feeling.

I know what it is to carry a home, children, work, dreams, other people’s needs, and still somehow be made to feel as though I should be doing more.

But strength was never meant to mean endless capacity.

There is a softness inside strength that deserves to be protected.

There is memory in it too—the kind that lives in the body long after the moment has passed. The things we survived. The people we cared for. The versions of ourselves we had to become just to keep moving.

Gia feels like that to me.

Grounded. Present. Powerful without performing it.

She does not need to prove what she can carry.

She already knows.

And maybe that is the lesson: strength is not measured by how much more we can pile onto ourselves. Sometimes strength is finally recognizing our own weight, our own worth, and deciding what we are no longer willing to carry.
