Wisdom and Wonder

Throughout the years, I've always seen faces in the trees.

Not actual faces, not people I've known or passed on the street, but something deeper hidden in the way the leaves catch the light, in the shadows cast by the sun, in the patterns most people walk past without noticing.

Lately, that same vision has found its way into my paintings.

I don't set out to paint a particular person. There is no reference, no memory, no photograph. Yet faces continue to emerge. Green skin. Blue skin. Ancient eyes. Features weathered by stories I cannot name. They arrive carrying a wisdom that feels older than language itself.

Sometimes I wonder if they are the same faces I've always seen in the trees.

Not individuals, but souls. Fragments of something ancient. The keepers of stories, lessons, and journeys long forgotten. They appear as if passing through for a moment, allowing me to witness them before disappearing again.

I don't paint who they are.
I paint what they carry.

The same way sunlight reveals a face hidden in a canopy of leaves, the brush reveals something waiting beneath the surface. And for a brief moment, I get to see the wisdom written across it.
